BIM for Pune's Film and Media Studio Infrastructure: Revit Workflows for Sound Stages and Production Facilities (2026)

BIM for Pune's Film and Media Studio Infrastructure: Revit Workflows for Sound Stages and Production Facilities (2026)

Pune isn't Mumbai's film industry, but it has a genuine and growing content-production scene — ad-film studios, small sound stages, OTT production facilities and post-production houses have been opening steadily across the city, particularly around Baner, Kothrud and the eastern IT corridor where production companies want space close to their client base. It's a small, specific construction niche, and one we haven't covered elsewhere on this blog, so here's an honest look at what it involves.

What Makes Studio Construction Different From a Typical Commercial Fit-Out

A sound stage or production studio has requirements that don't show up in a standard office fit-out: acoustic isolation between spaces, controlled ceiling heights for lighting grids, heavy point-loads for rigging, and power and HVAC systems designed around equipment loads rather than headcount. Getting the coordination wrong — a duct running exactly where a lighting truss needs to go, for instance — is expensive to fix after a studio is built and booked out for shoots.

Why This Is BIM-Relevant Work

Coordinating structural grid, MEP services, acoustic treatment and lighting infrastructure in a single clash-checked model is exactly the kind of problem BIM tools were built to solve, even at the smaller floor-plate scale of a studio compared to an IT campus. It's closer in spirit to the interior fit-out coordination work we've discussed for small and independent architecture practices in Pune than to a large-scale infrastructure project.

Who Actually Does This Work

This is a small, specialist slice of Pune's AEC market — usually handled by boutique interior and MEP consultants working directly with production companies, not by the large firms building IT parks or residential towers. It won't be most BIM graduates' first job, but for students with a genuine interest in acoustics, lighting infrastructure or the media industry specifically, it's worth being aware this kind of work exists in the city.

The Realistic Way In

There's no dedicated "studio BIM" course path, and we wouldn't pretend otherwise. The practical route is the same one that applies to most specialised BIM work: build solid Revit MEP and coordination fundamentals through a structured diploma, then look specifically for boutique interior and MEP consultancies when you're job-hunting, rather than only applying to the large residential and commercial developers everyone else applies to first.
