BIM for Multi-Storey Car Parks (MSCP and MLCP) in Pune 2026: Revit + Civil 3D Workflows for Ramps, Stack Parking, IS 4838 Compliance and Pune Metro Station Parking Hubs

Multi-storey car parks (MSCPs) and mechanised level car parks (MLCPs) are quietly one of the busiest BIM project types in Pune in 2026. The reason is geographic and regulatory at the same time. Pune Metro Phase 1 commissioning, Phase 2 line-3 construction, the PMC commercial parking-policy revision, the DCPR 2017 mandatory off-street parking calculations and a wave of mall and hospital expansions in Wagholi, Kharadi, Baner, Wakad and Talegaon have created a steady pipeline of standalone car park projects that didn''t exist five years ago.
Most Pune civil engineering graduates have never modelled an MSCP. Most ABC Trainings BIM students at Wagholi and Hadapsar arrive without ever having drawn an IS-4838-compliant ramp. After 80–120 hours of Revit Architecture and Revit Structure, plus 24 hours of focused MSCP project work, they are producing federated MSCP models that pass PMC and PCMC checking-officer review. This article is the clinical, on-the-job version of that workflow.
Where Are MSCPs Being Built in Pune in 2026?
The 2026 Pune MSCP pipeline clusters around five typologies:
Pune Metro hub MLCPs — MahaMetro and PMRDA''s park-and-ride structures at Hinjewadi (Line 3 terminal), Civil Court, PCMC, Bund Garden, Ramwadi and the planned Phase 2 stations.PMC and PCMC commercial-grade public MSCPs — JM Road, FC Road, Camp, Sadashiv Peth, Pimpri Camp.Hospital MSCPs — Ruby Hall (Wanowrie expansion), Sahyadri (multiple), Jupiter (Baner), Manipal (Kharadi), Aditya Birla (Chinchwad), Deenanath Mangeshkar (Erandwane), KEM, Jehangir.Mall and entertainment MSCPs — Phoenix Marketcity, Westend, Seasons Mall, Amanora, Pavillion, Kumar Pacific, Nexus Westend, Xion Hinjewadi.Residential township MSCPs — increasingly common in DCPR 2017 + premium FSI projects in Wagholi, Kharadi, Punawale, Ravet, Tathawade and Talegaon, especially when developers buy parking-deficient TDR.Each typology has different Pune-specific BIM constraints — and different employer pools to work for.
The IS 4838 Baseline Every Pune BIM Modeller Must Know
IS 4838 (Code of practice for design of multi-storey car parks) and the parking-design provisions of NBC 2016 Part 3 are non-negotiable. The Pune-relevant clauses your Revit model must demonstrate are:
- Parking bay — minimum 2.5 m × 5.0 m for cars; 3.6 m × 7.5 m for LCV; 3.6 m × 12.0 m for HCV.
- Drive aisle — 6.0 m for 90° parking; 5.5 m for 60°; 4.5 m for 45°; 3.6 m for parallel.
- Ramp gradient — 1:8 maximum for straight ramps without transition; 1:10 for curved ramps; transition curves of 4 m at top and bottom.
- Ramp width — 3.0 m one-way, 6.0 m two-way; helical ramps minimum 7.5 m outer radius.
- Headroom — 2.4 m clear minimum (NBC 2016 Part 3); 2.6 m above ramps to allow taller SUVs and ambulances.
- Floor-to-floor — typically 3.2–3.6 m for car parks (slab + beam + headroom + services).
- Travel distance — fire egress within 22.5 m to a refuge or stair (DCPR + NBC 2016 Part 4).
Your Revit project template for a Pune MSCP should already encode these as project parameters and view filters. We provide that template to ABC Trainings BIM students at Wagholi and Hadapsar on day one of the MSCP module.

The Revit + Civil 3D Federated MSCP Workflow
A Pune MSCP, modelled correctly, is the meeting of three disciplines. Civil 3D handles the entry/exit grading and the connection to the public road. Revit Architecture handles the bays, the ramps, the lifts and the staircases. Revit Structure handles the post-tensioned slab, the columns, the ramps as inclined slabs and the foundations. Revit MEP handles the ventilation (especially CO/CO2 sensor zoning), the drainage of ramp water, the firefighting layout and the EV charging conduit.
The federation sequence in a 2026 Pune MSCP project is:
1. Civil 3D — site and ramp footprint. Topographic surface, road centreline, gradient transition curves, surface drainage. Export to LandXML and link into Revit.
2. Revit Architecture — bay layout and ramp shell. Stack parking layout where DCPR allows, valet areas, EV bays (now mandatory at 5–20% of total per DCPR amendment), motorcycle bays.
3. Revit Structure — slab, beams, columns, ramp inclines. Export to ETABS for design check, re-import.
4. Revit MEP — ventilation, drainage, firefighting, EV. This is the discipline most Pune MSCP designers under-deliver on. CO sensor zoning per IS 4838 + NBC fire requirement is a clash hot zone.
5. Navisworks federation. Daily clash sets between Architecture vs MEP and Structure vs MEP. Ramps are the worst clash zones — soffit beams hit headroom on ramp landings constantly.
ABC Trainings'' MSCP module at Wagholi runs this federated workflow end-to-end on a real 4-floor MSCP at Hadapsar, with site photos, contractor RFIs and a sanitised PMC drawing set as input.
Stack Parking and Mechanised Parking — When DCPR Allows It and How to Model It
DCPR 2017 (and the 2024 amendment) permits stack and mechanised parking to count toward parking quota in commercial and residential projects under specific conditions. Pune developers chasing maximum FSI are increasingly using stack systems from Wohr, Klaus, Sotefin and Park Plus. Modelling these is an underrated skill in 2026.
In Revit, stack parking is modelled as:
- A custom adaptive component family for the stack platform (with a Stack Level parameter that drives lift height).
- A second family for the stack mechanism with its maintenance clearance volumes (typically 600–900 mm above and behind).
- A scheduling parameter that flags whether each platform counts as Independent or Dependent parking under DCPR.
The biggest mistake Pune BIM modellers make is forgetting to schedule the maintenance clearance for the stack mechanism, which then clashes with the slab beam during construction. We teach the recovery — an exception family with a "maintenance corridor" generic model that the contractor can verify on site.
Pune Metro MLCPs — The Special Case
The Pune Metro park-and-ride MLCPs at Hinjewadi (Phase 3), Civil Court (Phase 1), PCMC and the Phase 2 corridor are public infrastructure with different design rules:
- Higher modal share for two-wheelers — typically 60–70% of bays are two-wheeler.
- Mandatory EV charging at 20% minimum, with smart-charging metering.
- Universal accessibility under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016 — at least 2% accessible bays of 3.6 m × 5.0 m.
- MahaMetro''s BIM standard — derived from PAS 1192/ISO 19650, with a CDE on Autodesk Construction Cloud.
- Faster turnaround — design-build contractors expect LOD 350 federated models within 12 weeks of award.
A Pune BIM coordinator who has worked on a Metro MLCP becomes immediately employable across the Indian metro network — Mumbai Metro, Bengaluru Metro Phase 3, Hyderabad Metro Phase 2, Kolkata Metro Yellow Line.
Hospital and Mall MSCPs — Visitor Experience BIM
Hospital MSCPs are about emergency access. Ramp gradients soften to 1:10 to allow ambulances. Headroom is bumped to 2.6 m. Wayfinding is rigorously coded into the model with shared parameters. ABC Trainings BIM students who build a Ruby Hall, Sahyadri or Jupiter-style hospital MSCP portfolio piece are immediately interview-shortlisted by Pune''s healthcare AEC firms.
Mall MSCPs are about throughput and revenue. The model must support FAST barriers, ANPR cameras, parking guidance system (PGS) sensor placement, dynamic signage, and EV bays with revenue-share metering. Family creation skill matters more than slab design here — the modellers who build PGS, ANPR and barrier families with proper data parameters become the go-to specialists at Phoenix, Westend, Seasons, Amanora and the Nexus malls.
Common BIM Mistakes Pune MSCP Modellers Make (and How to Fix Them)
We have audited 60+ Pune MSCP Revit projects since 2024 at ABC Trainings'' BIM lab. The recurring mistakes are:
1. Not modelling the gradient transition curves — straight 1:8 ramps without 4 m transitions fail the IS 4838 audit.
2. Headroom shown to slab soffit, not to ductwork. A 2.4 m soffit becomes 2.0 m once a 400 mm duct is added. Always run a clearance check view filter at 2.4 m below the lowest service.
3. EV bay numbering not parameterised. Project parameters for EV bay percentage, charger type (AC Type 2, DC fast, ARAI standard) must be in the family — otherwise the schedule for the DCR submission is manual.
4. Ramp soffit columns missing. Pune''s contractors regularly find columns clashing with the ramp soffit because the modeller used a typical floor template.
5. CO sensor zone not modelled. The NBC fire and IS 4838 ventilation requirement needs explicit zone modelling with linked sensors. Without it, the firefighting consultant flags it at IGBC review.
Each of these is a teaching moment — and each is in the ABC Trainings Wagholi MSCP module, with before-and-after model snapshots.
What an MSCP Portfolio Project Adds to Your Pune Career
A finished, IS 4838-compliant, federated MSCP portfolio piece has a quantifiable effect on Pune BIM career outcomes. ABC Trainings'' 2025–26 placement data:
- Freshers with an MSCP portfolio piece received 1.6× more interview calls than freshers without.
- Average starting offer rose from ₹3.0 LPA to ₹3.8 LPA.
- 4 of our last 18 placed students at Pune Metro and PMRDA contractors had an MSCP piece in their portfolio.
It is one of the highest-leverage 24-hour additions you can make to a Pune BIM portfolio in 2026.
FAQ — MSCP BIM Questions Pune Engineers Ask
Do I need a structural background to model an MSCP in Revit? Helpful, not required. If you can read a beam-column layout, you can model. ETABS coordination is a separate skill we cover in Module 7.Are mechanised parking systems still BIMable when the supplier is Wohr or Klaus? Yes. Suppliers now publish Revit families and the LOD 300 family is enough to coordinate. LOD 400 fabrication families come from the supplier under NDA.How long does an MSCP project take in real Pune AEC practice? Concept to LOD 350 federated model, 8–14 weeks for a typical 4–6 floor MSCP. ABC Trainings condenses the modelling experience into 24 focused hours. Is IS 4838 still the latest standard? Yes, with overlays from NBC 2016 Part 3, DCPR 2017 (Pune), and the 2023 EV-charging amendments. Will Pune Metro keep building MLCPs through 2030? Yes. Phase 2 corridor (Khadakwasla–Kharadi, Hadapsar–Saswad, Vanaz–Chandni Chowk) parking hubs are funded and tendered. The pipeline is at least five years deep.Walk In to ABC Trainings Wagholi or Hadapsar
