Half the time, the laptop on the screen is the right call. The other half, it''s a beautiful trap that will frustrate the student for the next three years.

This guide is the version of that counselling conversation we wish was written down. Best-built among this list. Premium chassis. Keyboard and trackpad better than HP/Lenovo at this price.Workstation alternative: Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 4 (refurbished) — i7-1370P, 32 GB DDR5, 1 TB NVMe, Iris Xe — refurbished at around ₹72,000 from authorised dealers in Pune. We do not recommend, at this budget:

• Any laptop with 8 GB of RAM, regardless of brand or other specs.
• Any laptop with HDD or SATA SSD only (no NVMe).
• Any laptop with a 1366×768 display.
• MacBook Air M2/M3 — Revit''s native ARM Mac build is still beta in 2026 and not stable enough for a BIM student. Pune AEC firms run Windows Revit. (MacBook Pro is fine via Parallels, but it''s above the ₹80K budget.)
