Inside Maharashtra Invisible Automation Belt: 12,000+ Open EPLAN, Panel Design and Automation Jobs From Sambhajinagar to Chakan (2026 Insider Map) (Updated May 2026)

There is a 320-kilometre industrial corridor running from Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad) through Pune to Chakan that almost nobody outside the industry talks about. It generates roughly Rs. 40,000 crore of annual machinery and panel revenue. It is home to 1,200+ active panel builders, 350+ OEMs and 90+ EPC contractors. And in November 2026, it sits with an estimated 12,000+ open EPLAN, PLC SCADA, panel design and automation engineer requisitions. As Founder of ABC Trainings, I walk this corridor every week. I sit with plant heads at Bajaj Waluj, Mercedes Chakan, Lupin Aurangabad, Tata Motors Chinchwad and dozens of tier-1 suppliers in between. They are not asking me for marketing help. They are asking me where to find engineers. This blog is the deep map of that belt: every industrial zone, every named recruiter, every transit pattern, every salary band, and how a diploma student or experienced engineer should position themselves geographically. If you are a parent of a Maharashtra electrical engineering student, a polytechnic HOD, a job-seeker, or just someone trying to understand what Maharashtra industry actually looks like in 2026, this is the post for you.

TL;DR
  • The belt is 320 km long running from Sambhajinagar through Ahmednagar to Pune to Chakan, with about 12,000+ open automation engineer roles in November 2026.
  • Three primary industrial zones: Sambhajinagar (Waluj+Shendra+Chikalthana+Bidkin), Pune metro (Hadapsar+Wagholi+Hinjewadi+PCMC), and Chakan-Talegaon. Each zone has distinct OEM mix and hiring patterns.
  • Sambhajinagar zone has the largest two-wheeler plant in India (Bajaj Auto Waluj) plus Skoda VW Shendra, Endurance, Varroc, Lupin, Cipla, Wockhardt and 280+ panel builders.
  • Pune metro has the densest IT-OT bridge cluster: Siemens, ABB, Honeywell, Emerson, Rockwell, Schneider Electric, Forbes Marshall, Cummins all maintain major Pune operations.
  • Chakan is the German automotive belt: Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Mahindra, JCB India, Bharat Forge plus 110+ OEMs and 350+ panel builders feeding them.
  • Salaries scale from Rs. 3.0 LPA fresher in MSMEs to Rs. 35 LPA for senior EPLAN consultants on German export projects, with the largest pay gap explained by EPLAN + multi-language + multi-industry breadth.

The Geography: Why Sambhajinagar to Chakan is the Single Largest Automation Belt in India

This single 320-kilometre corridor generates more industrial machinery and electrical panel revenue than any other Indian state. The geography is no accident. Three factors converged: (1) Sambhajinagar in Marathwada offered cheap land and labour with strong MIDC infrastructure starting in the 1980s. (2) Pune emerged as the engineering and IT capital with strong polytechnic and engineering college pipelines. (3) Chakan was promoted as the German automotive hub in the 2000s, anchored by Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Mahindra and Bharat Forge. The cumulative effect: 1,200+ panel builders, 350+ OEMs, 90+ EPC contractors, and a labour force that has been doing ECAD-EPLAN work since 2005.

The numbers in 2026

Annual industrial machinery and panel revenue across the belt: approximately Rs. 40,000 crore. Total electrical and automation engineer headcount: approximately 85,000. Annual placement demand for fresh engineers: approximately 12,000 to 14,000. Annual fresh supply from polytechnics and BE programmes that is actually job-ready (with current EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, PLC SCADA toolkit): approximately 2,000 to 3,000. The gap is the central story.

What this means commercially

If you can train, you can place. If you can place, you can charge a placement premium. If you can place EPLAN-EPLAN-PLC SCADA combination engineers, you can charge a major premium. This is why ABC Trainings has expanded from 1 Pune centre in 2014 to 11 centres across Pune, Sambhajinagar, Sangli and Latur in 2026. The demand from the belt did not slow down.

What this means for a student

If you live anywhere in the belt, you have a job opportunity within commuting distance, today, that pays Rs. 3.0 to 4.5 LPA fresher to Rs. 11 LPA at the 5-year mark. You just need to walk in with the right toolkit. The next sections map the geography and the named opportunities.

How to commute to the Sambhajinagar zone for work

The Sambhajinagar railway station and Aurangabad airport are central. ABC Trainings has two centres in Sambhajinagar - Osmanpura (close to old city and Chikalthana) and Cidco (close to Shendra). Most students join from a 30-km commute radius.

The Sambhajinagar-Pune Transit: Ahmednagar, Kopargaon, Sangamner Industrial Stretch

The Sambhajinagar-Pune transit corridor along National Highway 753D (formerly NH-160) is not just a road - it is its own industrial micro-zone.

Ahmednagar industrial belt (about 130 km from Sambhajinagar, 120 km from Pune)

Anchors: Bajaj Tempo (now Force Motors) Ahmednagar plant, plus dense Lokmat Industrial Estate. Roughly 80 active panel builders and 15 OEMs across Ahmednagar district. Open requisitions: approximately 600.

Kopargaon and Shirdi

Anchored by Praj Industries Kopargaon - a major ethanol and bioenergy plant designer. Praj exports plants globally and runs heavy EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, panel design work. Open requisitions: approximately 200.

Sangamner and Sinnar

Sangamner: anchored by Amul Maharashtra (dairy automation, GMP-compliant electrical), DSP Black Pepper, plus Sangamner MIDC small panel builders. Sinnar: Hindustan Aeronautics Nashik subsidiary, plus Nashik MIDC overflow. Open requisitions: approximately 350.

The pattern

The transit corridor adds another 1,150 open requisitions to the belt. Students who can commute from Ahmednagar, Shirdi, Kopargaon or Sangamner have local job opportunities that do not require relocating to Pune or Sambhajinagar metro. ABC Trainings has placement partnerships with companies in this transit zone.

Pune Metro Zone: Hadapsar, Wagholi, Hinjewadi, PCMC, Kharadi Mapped

Pune metro is the densest IT-OT bridge cluster in India and the most diverse hiring environment in the belt.

Hadapsar zone (south-east Pune)

Anchors: Forbes Marshall (steam and process control), Cummins India (engines), Atlas Copco (compressors), Honeywell Automation India HQ, Larsen and Toubro Hadapsar office. ABC Trainings Hadapsar HQ is here. Open EPLAN/PLC requisitions: approximately 2,200.

Wagholi and Kharadi (east Pune)

Anchors: Schneider Electric Kharadi (one of Schneider largest global development centres), KPIT Technologies (auto embedded), Persistent Systems (IT-OT consulting), Mahindra Wagholi, Magarpatta IT. Open requisitions: approximately 1,800.

Hinjewadi (west Pune)

Anchors: Larsen and Toubro Hinjewadi (electrical and power design centre), KEC International, Tata Projects, ABB India Maan, Rockwell Automation, multiple IT-OT bridge companies. Open requisitions: approximately 2,400.

PCMC (Pimpri-Chinchwad-Akurdi)

Anchors: Bajaj Auto Akurdi (the original Bajaj plant), Tata Motors Pimpri-Chinchwad (commercial vehicles), Force Motors Pimpri (Trax, Citiline). Tier-1 suppliers in dense cluster: Bharat Forge Pimpri, Hindustan Composites, RSB Transmissions. Open requisitions: approximately 2,800.

The Pune metro pattern

Pune offers the most variety: pure OEM jobs (Bajaj, Tata, Force), tier-1 supplier roles (Bharat Forge, Hindustan Composites), MNC engineering centres (Schneider Kharadi, ABB Maan), EPC and project companies (L&T, KEC, Tata Projects), and IT-OT bridge consultancies (KPIT, Persistent). A diploma student in Pune can pick their preferred work culture.

Chakan-Talegaon: The German Automotive Belt and Its Tier-1 Supplier Ecosystem

Chakan-Talegaon is the youngest and fastest-growing zone in the belt, anchored by the German automotive industry that arrived in the 2000s.

Chakan MIDC (about 30 km north of Pune)

Anchors: Mercedes-Benz India (luxury car assembly), Volkswagen India (Polo, Vento, Virtus, Taigun assembly), Mahindra and Mahindra Chakan (SUV manufacturing), Bharat Forge Chakan (forgings), JCB India Chakan (construction equipment). Plus 250+ tier-1 suppliers feeding these OEMs. Open EPLAN/PLC requisitions: approximately 3,500.

Talegaon MIDC (about 15 km west of Chakan)

Anchors: Mahindra and Mahindra Talegaon (small commercial vehicles), General Motors Talegaon (Chevrolet legacy plant, now repurposed), Sany Heavy Industry (Chinese construction equipment), Trumpf India (laser technology). Open requisitions: approximately 800.

The Chakan distinctive feature: German DIN standards

Because Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen demand German DIN-standard electrical documentation, the entire Chakan supplier ecosystem runs on EPLAN. AutoCAD Electrical is not accepted by Mercedes Chakan or VW Chakan as the primary documentation tool. This is the only zone in India where EPLAN is functionally mandatory for OEM supply. For an EPLAN-trained engineer, Chakan is the highest-value zone in India.

The pay premium

Salaries in Chakan-Talegaon run 15 to 25% above comparable Pune metro levels because of the EPLAN mandate plus the German customer-facing requirement. A senior EPLAN engineer in Chakan can earn Rs. 12 to 18 LPA where the same engineer in PCMC earns Rs. 10 to 14 LPA.

How to commute to Chakan

Chakan is roughly 30 km from Pune, accessible by car or hourly company buses. Many engineers stay in Pune (Wakad, Bavdhan, Aundh) and commute. ABC Trainings Wagholi students reach Chakan in about 50 minutes.

Salary Geography: Why the Same Engineer Earns Different Rs. by Zone

The same engineer with the same skills earns different salaries in different zones of the belt. This is what most career-guide articles miss, and it has a real geographic logic.

Sambhajinagar zone salary bands (2026)

Fresher EPLAN/PLC SCADA engineer: Rs. 2.5 to 3.6 LPA. Junior engineer: Rs. 3.8 to 5.2 LPA. Senior engineer: Rs. 6 to 9 LPA. The Sambhajinagar zone offers the lowest cost of living, so the absolute Rs. is lower but the lifestyle equivalent is the highest in the belt. Best for engineers with family ties to Marathwada.

Pune metro salary bands (2026)

Fresher: Rs. 3.0 to 4.5 LPA. Junior: Rs. 4.5 to 7 LPA. Senior: Rs. 8 to 13 LPA. Pune metro pays more in absolute Rs. but the cost of housing offsets a significant share. The variety of opportunities (OEM, tier-1, MNC, EPC, IT-OT) makes Pune the optimal zone for engineers maximising long-term career growth.

Chakan-Talegaon salary bands (2026)

Fresher: Rs. 3.5 to 5 LPA. Junior: Rs. 5.5 to 8.5 LPA. Senior: Rs. 12 to 18 LPA. Chakan pays the highest absolute Rs. in the belt because of the EPLAN mandate plus the German customer-facing requirement. Best zone for an EPLAN-fluent engineer optimising compensation.

What moves you up the band fastest

Three factors, in order of impact: (1) Multi-software fluency: EPLAN + AutoCAD Electrical + PLC SCADA TIA Portal is the trifecta that pays a 30% premium over single-software engineers. (2) Multi-industry breadth: automotive + pharma + EPC on the CV opens doors closed to single-industry engineers. (3) German or French A1+ language: pays 15 to 25% premium for direct customer-facing roles in Chakan or French plants in Pune.

How a Diploma Student or Career-Switcher Should Position Geographically

The practical geographic positioning advice for a diploma electrical student or career-switcher in the belt, based on what I tell every parent who asks me.

If you live in Sambhajinagar district or Marathwada

Train at ABC Trainings Cidco or Osmanpura. Target the Sambhajinagar zone first for your first job at Bajaj Waluj, Skoda Shendra, Endurance, Lupin or Cipla. Build 2 to 3 years of experience. Then optionally lateral to Pune for a 25 to 40% pay jump or stay in Marathwada for lifestyle.

If you live in Pune district or PCMC

Train at ABC Trainings Hadapsar HQ or Wagholi. Target Pune metro for variety and Chakan for compensation. EPLAN should be your strongest skill since Pune-Chakan offers the most opportunities for it.

If you live in Ahmednagar, Shirdi, Sangamner or Sinnar

Train at ABC Trainings Cidco Sambhajinagar (closer) or Hadapsar Pune (longer commute). Target the transit corridor companies (Praj Kopargaon, Amul Sangamner, Force Motors Ahmednagar, Mahindra Nashik) for local opportunities, with optional Pune lateral after 2 years.

If you live in Sangli, Kolhapur or Solapur

Train at ABC Trainings Sangli. The Sangli zone has its own pocket of panel builders, plus easy weekly commute to Pune. Many students train weekend-track and lateral to Pune after course completion.

FAQs

How big is the Sambhajinagar-Pune-Chakan automation belt really?

The belt is roughly 320 km long, running from Sambhajinagar through Pune to Chakan. It generates approximately Rs. 40,000 crore of annual industrial machinery and panel revenue. It is home to about 1,200+ active panel builders, 350+ OEMs and 90+ EPC contractors. As of November 2026, the belt sits with an estimated 12,000+ open EPLAN, PLC SCADA, panel design and automation engineer requisitions. The supply of job-ready engineers from polytechnics is approximately 2,000 to 3,000 per year, making the gap structural.

Which zone of the belt offers the highest salaries for ECAD/EPLAN engineers?

Chakan-Talegaon pays the highest absolute Rs. in the belt because of the EPLAN mandate by Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen, plus the German customer-facing requirement. Fresher Rs. 3.5 to 5 LPA, Junior Rs. 5.5 to 8.5 LPA, Senior Rs. 12 to 18 LPA. Pune metro pays slightly less in absolute Rs. but offers the most variety. Sambhajinagar pays the lowest absolute Rs. but has the lowest cost of living and the highest lifestyle equivalent for engineers with Marathwada roots.
