What is the difference between HMI and SCADA?
HMI (Human Machine Interface) is a single panel showing one machine or one line. SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) is a plant-wide or multi-site system aggregating data from many PLCs, with historians, alarm management, recipe management, and operator workstations. Career-wise, HMI engineer roles pay ₹3–6 LPA; SCADA engineer roles pay ₹5–12 LPA at mid-level; SCADA solution architect ₹15–25 LPA. We cover both — HMI screen design comes first, then full SCADA system development.
Is Ignition really the future, or should I focus on WinCC and FactoryTalk?
WinCC + FactoryTalk dominate today — ~80% of running Pune SCADA installations. Ignition is growing fast (15–20% YoY) because it is web-based, unlimited-tag licensed, and modern. New greenfield projects at Forbes Marshall, L&T, KPIT, and Industry 4.0 plants increasingly choose Ignition. I am from a pharma background. How is pharma SCADA different?
Pharma SCADA (Cipla, Lupin, Wockhardt, Glenmark) is governed by FDA 21 CFR Part 11, EU GMP Annex 11, and GAMP 5 validation. Every screen has audit trails, every recipe is electronically signed, every change is validated. The technical SCADA work is similar (WinCC or Wonderware) but the *process* is heavily regulated. We dedicate one module to pharma SCADA validation — Computer Systems Validation (CSV), IQ/OQ/PQ protocols, electronic batch records — which is exactly what pharma SCADA JDs interview on.
Can I take this SCADA training course without prior PLC knowledge?
It is possible but not ideal — SCADA reads data from PLCs, so without PLC knowledge you will struggle on the "tag mapping" and "communication driver" modules. We recommend either (a) taking our combined PLC + SCADA course (3 months) instead, or (b) taking the SCADA-only course (6 weeks) if you already have some PLC exposure from a previous course or job. Pure software-side candidates do take SCADA-only and then add PLC later.
